Scratched, Dull, and Stained — But Not Beyond Saving

Millwood is one of the Inland Northwest's most distinctive small towns — a former mill community incorporated into the Spokane Valley with housing stock that reflects its working-class history. The homes here often have original hardwood that's been covered, painted, or ignored for years. Refinishing brings it back. Old mill-era fir and oak that came from this region's own timber industry has grain density and character that modern production wood can't match.

The free estimate answers the key question: can your floors be saved, and what will it actually cost?

What Waiting Is Doing to Your Floors

  • Scratches go deeper over time. Once the finish layer is broken, bare wood absorbs grit, moisture, and oils from foot traffic. The damage that stops at the surface today doesn't stay there.
  • Water damage is cumulative. Repeated moisture events penetrate further into the wood each season. There's a point where refinishing stops being possible.
  • Pre-sale window is short. Refinishing requires cure time before furniture goes back. If you're planning to list, this needs to happen before the rush.
  • Replacement costs 3–4x more. Refinishing at $3.50–$7/sqft vs. new hardwood installation at $6–$12/sqft or more. When the wood underneath is solid, refinishing is almost always the right call.

How We Refinish Floors

1. Free in-home estimate. We assess the wood — species, thickness, condition, depth of damage — and give you a written quote. Full refinish, screen-and-recoat, or selective board replacement depending on what we find.

2. Stain samples on your actual floor. You pick the color in your own lighting — not from a card. We apply test swatches and you approve before we commit.

3. Dustless sanding. Our HEPA-filtered containment system captures dust at the source. No fine particles circulating through your forced-air ductwork for months after the job.

4. Stain, seal, and finish coats. Two to three coats of commercial-grade polyurethane with buffing between each. Water-based options cure faster; oil-based adds warmth and depth.

5. Cure and handoff. Light foot traffic in 24 hours (water-based) or 48 hours (oil-based). Written care instructions for Spokane's seasonal climate included.

What Our Customers Say

"Old mill-era home in Millwood, original fir floors under linoleum and carpet. We didn't know what was underneath. The refinished floors are the reason people comment when they walk in. The grain is spectacular."

H. & C. M. · Millwood

"Changed the stain color from orange-tinted original to a cooler gray. They tested patches on our actual floor first — the difference between the two options was stark in our lighting. Right choice, right process."

Quick Answers Before You Call

Will there be a lot of dust?

Not with our dustless sanding system. It captures the vast majority of dust at the source — dramatically different from traditional refinishing. Most homeowners stay home during the project.

What if I choose the wrong stain color?

You choose from test patches applied to your actual floor, in your actual light. You approve it before we proceed. No commitment until you've seen the color in context.

How long until I can use the room?

Water-based finish: foot traffic in 24 hours, furniture in 72 hours, area rugs after 7 days. Oil-based: 48 hours for foot traffic, 7 days for furniture.
